Vintage scares me a little.
But now that the vintage craze has died down a little, and it carries a little less of that ‘haute couture’ attitude (so ironic), it’s also a little less scary for me to venture down into the basement suite that houses Divine on the 700 W block of 17th Avenue S.
Aside from offering racks and racks of stylish vintage clothing, Divine also sells lots of small boutique lines like Only and House of Virtue, body jewelry, piercing and tattoo services, and THE biggest selection of Converse Chuck Taylors this side of Toronto (thanks Vanessa)!
While I have been known to satisfy my sneaker addiction at this establishment, I have also shopped for clothing and accessories here, and what I always notice is how cool the sales people are. They take pride in their store and the items that they carry, and are fashionable enough to notice that the sneakers you’re trying on go really, really well with the shirt that you’re wearing. They once commented, while I was trying on a sun dress, that I looked ‘very cute’ in it and that it complemented my body and skin tone very well.
I have a sneaking suspicion that they are really androids programmed to convince you to buy more stuff. But hey, androids are cool.
