I’ve never been to Bar One for dinner, because it’s Italian and I don’t have the best of luck with Italian food, what with not eating meat or milk. But, I have been there tons of times for brunch, and the brunch is to die for.

I have eaten inside, in one of the tables on the floor, on the back patio, and at the bar and the bar is most definitely the best place to have brunch. It’s very lively in a cafe style and there is a good vibe from the wait staff. When I ate on the patio, it took forever to get any service and the waitress was a bit rude, but it seemed more because she was busy than genuinely mean. At the bar, there’s none of that. Instant service, smiles, and lots of action.

If you’re going for brunch, there’s a ton of great personalized meals, but the Cruz is the best. It’s a flavor explosion in your mouth. Mouth-gasm all that way. It’s eggs and grilled peppers and whipped goat cheese and sweet jelly and none of it is mashed together in that way that makes all of them get goopy and mushy, but all placed neatly on your plate so you can make your own perfect bite every time.

Worth the drive to the west end on hangover Sunday every time.
