If I had to judge Cadillac Lounge strictly on quality of food, I’d be walking out the door with my nose plugged, making overly dramatic gagging gestures. Maybe even frantically waving my other hand in the air yelling, “Nooooo more!”

But luckily for the kids at Cadillac, and particularly lucky for the context of timing and delivery, this Elvis/Johnny Cash-decored, retro-grit pub excels in everything else and rates as one of my top picks for a great night out in the city.

By far, it is the most unpretentious place to grab a pint. Come summer, when its back patio opens and transforms into a Parkdalian see-and-be-seen venue, there’s a guaranteed wide assortment of people, working class locals, punkers and rockabilly types, and families that don’t stick to the white-picket-fence cause. All genuine, no posing, and many smiles.

And with that patio, really, there’s no reason to be sour.

All in all, the atmosphere is friendly and genuine, much of which is attributed to their staff. In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever felt more comfortable with servers than I have at this place: pleasant, accommodating, and just real. Not once have I felt like they were around just for the tips.

Anytime I even thought of something, the servers were there. You seated? We’ll get you your drinks, stat. Need more water? You got it. Hungry? The grub is out in minutes. Need more drinks to better enjoy the taste of the food? It’s there.

If Elvis and Johnny Cash were still alive, they’d definitely approve.
