With all the burgers I’ve consumed this past year, you’d think I’d weigh three times my weight and on my death bed.
Luckily, I’m still kickin’.
My most recent heart-attack-in-training session placed me at the perpetually busy Craft Burger (573 King Street W), a place I’d heard much about within my elite burger-eating circles.
I was hesitant. After a recent trip to competitor Hero Burgers — another well-talked about burger stop — I spent the rest of my day frowning. My faith in fast food was tested, and I had fears Craft Burger would leave me in a similar boat.
In fact, things didn’t run too smoothly when I arrived. Cash register problems displaced attention from waiting customers and plagued the speed of my transaction. Catastrophically, I thought it was a sign of worse to come.
However, once the issue was remedied, the line moved quickly. The workflow was efficient, with staff lining up a row of buns, garnishing them, slapping the patties on, and distributing everything in strict chronological order. Seems like a simple thing, but as my recent experience at Allen’s dictates, doesn’t happen all too often.
And the food? Pretty darn good. The burger was juicy, tasting like it was plucked from a real barbecue; the bun was toasted just perfectly, bringing out that nice sesame flavour; and the onion rings were remarkably crispy, even after a 15-minute trek home in a sealed paper bag.
So, after a year-long quest for the best burger in Toronto, consequent clogged arteries and food comas, I’ve found something in Craft Burger that almost puts my search to rest.
Almost.
I can just hope all future burgers come pretty close to this one.

I am a food fanatic and I’m always searching the internet for food ideas. I love my hamburgers the most of course . Can anybody suggest some variations of burgers?
