I have to admit, I was initially terrified of the concept of a vegan restaurant.
“So they don’t have anything with bacon in it?” I asked my friend, still struggling to understand why such a place would exist.
“No, it’s vegan. No meat, no meat by-products” she snarled.
Well, it turns out life without bacon (at least for one meal) is bearable, even quite enjoyable.
Fresh does offer some vegetarian options (i.e. some cheeses) so it’s not strictly vegan.
But all the food they offer is delicious – the corn bread is terrific, their soup of the day is consistently a winner and their salads and bowls are filling and delicious. Their juice bar also offers a selection of organic fruit and vegetable juices as well as energy elixirs and power shakes.
Another thing that keeps me coming back is the price – I can get a full, hearty dinner for under $10 (take-out only). But for the full Fresh experience, you have to check out the patio in the summer and people watch on Queen West.
The service here also deserves to be mentioned – these health-obsessed, nature lovers work like mad. Go here for dinner or lunch any day of the week and the place is packed. But I’ve always been seated, served and attended to every time I’ve been here.
But they don’t take reservations so be prepared to wait, and make sure you come hungry – their portions are very filling and worth every dollar.
Vanessa

vanessa – does Fresh have any other locations? I swear I’ve seen them before but am not sure where?
Yes Michaela, they actually have two other locations. One is located on Spadina just south of Queen and the other is located on Bloor just east of Spadina. Check out their website http://www.freshrestaurants.ca for more info!
