I’ve got nothing against East Side Mario’s, but I am sure lovers of Italian cuisine would probably be offended if they tasted their sauce-from-a-can pasta primavera.
Fusaro’s Kitchen would never dream a doing Italy such a disservice. And they prove that you can do quick, (relatively) inexpensive Italian food that doesn’t taste like Chef Boyardee.
Located on the corner of Spadina and Adelaide, Fusaro’s offers a selection of awesome eats. Step up to the counter and you’ll be greeted with delicious freshly made pizza, sandwiches of the day, rice balls and other tasty Italian morsels. You can also order off their chalkboard menu, which features a huge selection of pastas, panninis and full dinners like lasagna and veal parmigiana.
The lunch rush is crazy here. Located in a busy office area, the line up can be out the door. It moves quickly though, a la soup Nazi. You might not get a friendly smile, but you’ll get fast fresh food, and given the crazy atmosphere, it’s the most you can ask for.
This place literally reminds me of my cafeteria in high school (except the food doesn’t taste like paste). People are yelling, people are sweaty and stressed and trying to serve a zillion people during the lunch rush. I can’t say the service here has been exceptional, but the quality of the food makes up for it.
You’ll want to steal yourself a table either inside or on the patio before you order. And make sure you come with an empty stomach and an insatiable love for tasty Italian cuisine.
