Brunch is the perfect way to start a lazy Sunday – and The Harbord Room is a great place to do it.
The upscale eatery is located on Harbord Street – an eclectic part of the city that caters to the college and over 30 crowd simultaneously. Harbord Room will most likely appeal to the latter as the items on the brunch menu are priced around $15.
Not a greasy spoon establishment for uni kids on a budget, that’s for sure.
But you’ll certainly get what you pay for. The interior of HR is clean, well-lit, not extremely spacious but it does boast an impressive patio out back in the summer. The crowd is a mix of stylish professionals and couples munching on short stacks and eggs Benny.
I had the traditional Mitton Breakfast – peameal and strip bacon and sausage, two eggs, toast and potatoes and they were quite delicious. I also sampled the pancakes and they were also pleasing to the taste buds.
Our server was pleasant, refilled our coffee often and made sure to check on us frequently. Our food was ready really quickly. The bathrooms, although unfortunately situated in the basement, which is standard for restaurants in Toronto, featured chalkboard walls with chalk for you to write a quick (and erasable) message. A nice added touch
The food was definitely great here but $15 for eggs and bacon seems a bit steep for me. Definitely a place worth checking out but it wouldn’t make for a list of most bang-for-your-buck Toronto eateries.
