Ronnnie’a Local 069 is hands down my fav bar in Kensington Market.
It’s got it all:
- skids
- rockers
- hippies
- trust fun kids
- hipsters, and
- a lot of the people who actually work in the market.
In the summer, time they have this big shared seating beach-table patio in the front and it’s impossible to ever get a seat, but everyone just kinda squishes. Inside, it’s dark and dank and homey feeling in the winter.
They used to have a juke box, not sure why they took it out, but I suspect it’s because patrons kept playing crap like Blink-182 instead of the cool stuff the bartenders pick like The Cramps.
It’s a straight up bar in here folks.
They don’t make fancy girlie cocktails or shooters or anything like that. They have beer and whiskey. Straight shooting 100%.
The bartenders are all greasers and even if they seem rough around the edges, they’re all pretty friendly guys. It’s most definitely the kind of place where you always run into someone you know, and if not you can be left alone with your glass of Jameson neat too.
A great way to waste an afternoon in the sun!
