dakota tavernI come from a small town of 400 people, so I’m used to the small-town honky-tonk sort of life.

Thus, when I find that same sort of feeling in a city of 4 million or so, I feel I should grab it by the balls and just clench on to for dear life.

And if there’s one place in this city that makes me want to do this, it’s the Dakota Tavern (249 Ossington Avenue).

Drinks. Decent bartenders. Great, great bands. Great decor. Check, check, check, and check.

Really, I can’t ask for anything more. And though on some nights, it may turn off some with its high percentage of scenesters, it’s a great place to hang out, meet other people, and have a downright good time. It’s no wonder the place hosts a neverending line-up on weekend nights. Heck!

Also, I’ve recently learned the Sunday bluegrass brunch is one of the more entertaining places to spend a late Sunday morning/afternoon. Even though the food is pretty standard (scrambled eggs, fruit salad, sausages, pancakes, home fries), it’s kinda worth paying the $14 because it’s all-you-can-eat, with delicious banjo and dancing on the side.

Now, tell me, what other place gives you banjo with your breakfast? None that I know of.

And for this reason, Dakota, I LOVE YOU.
