With life in general, I desperately want what I cannot have. This also applies to Wanda’s Pie in the Sky (287 Augusta Avenue).
The Yorkville-turned-Kensington sweet shack is that delicious season finale that teases you with the good stuff and leaves you throbbing, aching, for the next visit.
Case in point: the sour cherry pies. These things are so popular I’ve not had a chance to scoop one up myself — and after a year being here in Toronto, believe me, I’ve tried.
In fact, sometimes I don’t even WANT a pie, but because I know it’s never going to be around, I need to have it.
Regardless, this is such a small issue when it comes to Wanda’s, considering they stock way more than just pies. I’ve had some pretty orgasmic moments here with other treats, including their cakey cupcakes (pictured above) and they’re-so-moist-I’m-going-to-pass-out chocolate chip cookies.
With their taste-savvy sense, paired with the location in Kensington, mixed in with efficient staff members and decent recommendations when the sour cherry pie is out (again), Wanda’s is one of my favourite sweet-tooth stops in central Toronto, even if it’s not as close as I want it to be or open as late as I like.
But then again, if it were closer or open later, I would likely weigh in the region of 853 pounds and would be dead of heart failure right now… not to mention it wouldn’t leave me wanting more.
So far, I think the recipe’s just right.
